SLAY DAY ON THE VEDDER. Seems like we discoverered the secret to low water conditions. We absolutely crushed it this morning. Maxing our limit on Cohos and Springs before 10am. We were fishing with a group of friends that were new to fishing, and hoping we would get them into atleast 1 fish, so they would have the chance to experience what a fight felt like, but we absolutely blasted through expecations. Being their first time fishing.. I hope we dont ruin future fishing expectations

We arrived around 6am and the air was filled with smoke while we could clearly see ash drifting through the air. The full moon disapeared over the hills and the bites were non stop. We threw everything from jigs, to grub tails.. from spinners to spoons.. from beads to blades. The fishes smashed literally everything we were throwing. We were lucky to be at a point where we were fairly selective of the fish we decided to keep. One of the key tickets to our success were smaller almost micro sized jigs.. we sized down almost everything except spinners and blades. Considering the water clarity and depth, we wanted to approach it in as if fishing Stealth mode on the Capilano. We hooked the majority of our fish with this technique. Another method that produced tremendous results were large spinners, we were fishing big flashy size 4 blue fox and size 5 luhr jensen metric spinners (I cant find these anywhere anymore, if anyone knows where I can buy these pls DM me) these fish absolutely inhaled the spinners, while some fish would chase and tap before commiting on the retrieve. We tweaked our technique and methods until we were dialed in: distance, sink rate, retrieve speed & timing the twitch.

Majority of the fish were still fairly chrome while some were starting to turn. We cleaned up and left around 10:30am just as the bulk of the derby fisherman started filling up the run. We cleaned, bagged and dragged our bag out through a 30 minute hike to our car. Today was a good day.

Had a fantastic time charter fishing with @bentrodsguidingandtackle last week.
We started the day off hitting Harrison, waters were so clear we were almost sight fishing for them at one point. Moved our way into the vedder.. but with the extreme low water conditions it made fishing a little tougher than usual. We ended up landing about 5 fish, 2 being hatcheries and also lost a bunch of cohos and a hog of a spring. Biggest catch was approx 15lb coho. Always good to have amazing friends as company

SCALLION & GINGER CRAB
A West Coast delicacy
One of the best ways to cook crab. This recipe makes the dish as good as a restaurants.

Ingredients
1 crab, about 1 1/2 - 2 pounds 2 inches ginger, peeled and sliced into 10-12 pieces
3 stalks scallion, cut into 2-inch length
3 tablespoons cornstarch for frying
1 tablespoon cooking oil
oil for deep frying

Sauce:

1 tablespoon oyster sauce
2 dashes pepper powder
1/8 teaspoon sesame oil
1/2 teaspoon sugar
6 tablespoons water
3/4 teaspoon corn starch
1/8 teaspoon fish sauce

Instructions

Mix the sauce and set aside.

Clean the crab and cut into pieces. Pat dry with paper towels and put into a big bowl. Add the corn flour to the bowl and lightly coat the crab pieces with it. Heat up a wok and add cooking oil. When the oil is heated, drop the crab pieces and deep fry. As soon as they turn red, dish out, strain the excess oil and set aside.

Heat up a wok and add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Add the ginger and stir-fry until aromatic. Put the crab pieces into the wok and quickly stir a few times before adding the sauce. Add the chopped scallions, toss the crab in the wok a few times until well coated with the sauce, dish out and serve immediately.
